Does anyone know of any quality piano teachers on YouTube ?
I'm starting out on the piano, and I already know some stuff about music I play guitar and ukulele . I want to find good beginner lessons If you can help me out, that'd be great.

Help ! My piano teacher thinks I play mechanically?
Hi I'm currently a 1st year music major n my instrument is piano.Just today I had my lesson with my conservatory teacher, and she thinks I play without emotion.I'm doing Moszkowski etude op 72 no 11, and after watching videos on Youtube, esp Horowitz,,I tried playing that fast and my teacher said my playing was fast and accurate, but lack the musicality. So far I always get complimented by competition judges for my sensitivity and musicality, so this is the 1st time for me n I was quite upset to hear it.She wants me to play " romantically" , slower, and think more about the melody. I thought since it's an etude, we can't use rubato? Since there there are lots of runs n r supposed to be played fast and lightly, I played it with the image of " water" in mind, or something that sparkles and such. So Moszkowski is a Romantic composer, but instead I treat this piece like impressionist, cos it just sounds like it...Anw, I'm pretty sad today,,, I definitely don't want to play like a robot,,, Almost everyone in my con plays everything in super speed, so it's hard not to be influenced.

What do piano teachers do exactly when they ask the students to come in for an initial evaluation?
I have a little daughter beginning to have piano lessons and my daughter would be brought to the teacher to be " evaluated" . What exactly should I prepare for and what will the teacher ask her us to do, and how long would that evaluation last? I want to know what teachers usually do, and ask around before asking the teacher, so I won't sound ignorant of the matter. Thank you.

How do I find a piano teacher within certain criteria?
I have been teaching myself piano for the past 5 or 6 years and have made the majority of progress through these years, although wouldn't have had a chance without a teacher for the basics . I have been playing for about 13 years and lately have been letting mentors who know a lot more about music than I criticize me and make some of the appropriate changes to the mistakes I make whether it be dynamics, fingering, etc. I think it is time I get more serious and find a teacher. I think that would greatly speed up my progression because I would be more focused to complete the tasks at hand pieces my teacher assigns rather than getting sidetracked and working on ambitious, too soon projects as I have done quite frequently in the past and still continue to do. I play for enjoyment, so when I am learning a few bars of the Rach 2, it never feels a waste. Although I do know deep down although it's not a waste, my time can be better spent. I don't want just any teacher like I have had in the past, I need someone who is either a retired concert pianist, or someone who has a wealth of experience in piano performance to teach me and help build my repertoire. How do I go about finding these people? As these kinds of people probably don't advertise in local newspapers like your everyday basic piano teacher does. Rachmaninoff didn't study alone, neither should I.Thanks for the advice. Next.

A good piano teacher must know to play the pieces of his student ?

Is my piano teacher okay?
I hired my 14 year old brother to be my piano teacher for ten dollars a month. I'm 17 and i really want to learn piano but have no money for formal lessons. I play flute and my mom can't afford the piano and flute lessons for me. I want to be a multi instrument playing individual.

I get really nervous in front of my piano teacher and then she thinks I'm stupid and I suck?
I just had my second piano lesson and I told her I'd taught myself all the bass notes and chords and treble clef notes. And that I'd been playing since the start of the year. And all the sharps and flats etc. But I get so nervous that I stuffed up. Then she starts treating me like I'm stupid again. She points to the start of a new, easy piece and says " now this has 2 sharps. It has an f sharp points and a C sharp points " and her tone was the same as when people talk to little kids. And " do you know what this is? points to a treble clef " and is all like " Good job " and acts surprised when I give the right answer. Also, she doesn't let me do the chords the way I want to. I wanted to do it like this Normal1st interval 2nd interval 1st " But she looks at me disapprovingly and makes me do all sorts of weird stuff so I stuff up. Ugh she makes me feel so stupid and little. I KNOW how to do all the stuffshe tells me to .

My piano teacher is giving up on me because I can't even play just one piano piece perfectly...no hope now?
Hi, I'm a 14 year old guy whose been playing piano for 2 yearsMy piano teacher gave me all these pieces such as Schubert and Chopin Ballard and Winter Wind etude, revolutionary and Moonlight but recently my teacher is beginning to give up on me well, and I also want to quit being her student too . I started learning with her since february, it started out well, but gradually i lost confidence in myself because. And half the time I don't even know what my teacher is saying, so at least I'm getting a new teacher now. But I actually kinda wanna quit the piano lessons. But I love composing romantic music so much, especially more of the dark romance. I love composing pieces that, when I listen to them, bring out the stories in my head and play out in animation. Because, I also love drawing and painting and animating things by hand. But most especially, I have so many intricate stories, fantasy stories, war stories, romance stories hundreds that I thought of from pure imagination that I want to express through music and I want to draw it out. I mean, I can improvise a beautiful romantic piece in one try and that would be a complete piece if I write it down. I can improvise a different one rite after, cuz I love romantic music so much and play a lot that I know all the patterns to make it beautiful this is going a little off topic, sorry . Playing something that can touch my heart seems to be the only thing that inspires me to play and keep playing. I don't know why, but when my piano teacher comes and gives me classes, I just cant help but not care . My brain seems to automatically shut down in her lesson, and I just nod and say yes when she says something, but maybe its just cuz I don't like her. But I think another reason that I don't like a majority 98 % of pieces is just that they aren't very touching to me at least . And for some reason I can't learn the piece, because when I listen to it, it doesn't make me tear.... So ya, even though some of my compositions have a jazzy feel to it, I don't like jazz. And I already figured out all the " keys" into composing a romantic piece, the different switches likeAnd there's also SATs and school and summer classes and drawing and guitar so I'm not a fully devoted pianist who practices 6 hours a day, at most 2Any advice help on that?

I Hate my piano teachers?
Well, now i am 13 and i have been playing the piano since 4 but stopped for a few years in primary i'll get to there later . My mum has always loved the piano and has been playing vicariously through me. I HATE the piano. My first teacher was a very gentle and passionate female teacher and i loved her, though my mum quit her cos' she thought that she taught too slow. My second teacher was a crazy Russian female teacher and i hated her. She used to scream every lesson at me because i didn't do this or that properly i used to always cry. I begged my mum to let me stop. She did, after a year or two of torture. Then i had another female Chinese teacher and i also hated her, she used to do the same thing to me as the last one, again, after much begging, i finally got to quit, after two years. Then, low and behold, there was another teacher, he was a male Chinese teacher and he always stank of stale tobacco. He was the same as the last one and the same situation of begging and quitting.Luckily, at that age, i was about in yr 4 in primary and i couldn't take it any more so i rejoiced in the freedom of 2 or so years of no piano lessons and practice.Unfortunately, i had to take it up again because it was the point of entering high school and there was the mandatory subject of Music. My mum found another teacher and she was female and i guess, she wasn't that tough and harsh as the previous teacher and she was okay. But, my mum thought she was also too slow in teaching so she forced me to quit.My mum then found another teacher and he is an Australian male he's my current teacher and i don't know what i think of him he's OK but claims to yell if you don't do the work... O O. I really feel uncomfortable with male teachers as with the previous Chinese male teacher PLEASE DON'T SAY I AM UNGRATEFUL AND HATE ALL MY TEACHERS THAT ISN'T TRUE BUT I MAY BE A LITTLE BIT UNDER THE TITLE TRAUMATIZED AND I REALLY REALLY HATE PLAYING THE PIANO, AND AS I'VE SAID BEFORE, MY MUM LOVES THE PIANO.I AM IN 7TH GRADE AND WHAT I AM ASKING IS WHAT SHOULD I DO?? I REALLY DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH MALE TEACHERS MY MUM WOULD NEVER LET ME QUIT TILL I REACH 8TH GRADE

Do you think my piano teacher likes me?
If he does the following things. He always holds my hang or puts his arms around me to show me how to play, he smiles at me a lot, he complemented me on my haircut, and he complemented me on my necklace. He also says I'm one of his best students. Do you think he thinks I'm attractive? I'm 16, I know hes too old for me, I'm just wondering if he likes me.Umm like 40. I'm not trying to get with him, I'm just wondering if he likes me.

Who are the BEST piano teachers in London?
I have heard a lot about Joan Havill, many good things about her as a piano teacher.But...who else do you consider THE BEST among the piano teachers in LONDON?

My piano teacher isn't giving me any freedom?
I've had 3 lessons and so far I've noticed that when I play bits of the song I'm learning, I tend to place my fingers differently. So she fixes them up and tells me to play how she wants me to play. But then it feel unnatural and I fumble a lot more. Also, I was playing a bar from F r Elise and it had a right hand part and left hand part and they were right like on top of each other. Notes R E, B, L E D , R E, D . Both in treble clef and nearly the same notes. So she doesn't let me use one hand I gotta complicate things and play with with both hands. It makes me feel incapable because I keep fumbling and stuffing up. Then when I do that, she thinks I'm incompetent. What should I do? I know I'm supposed to do what she says and I think I worded my question wrong but no one has ever commented that my technique is sloppy my dad, an ex pianist, actually once said my technique was rather good. And since my dad played piano for about 15 20 years and I rarely get complimented by him especially if it relates to music so I know that when he does praise me, I've earnt it. So yeah... My technique differs only slightly from what my teacher is trying to get me to do and I find it that when I do whatever feels natural to me, it flows better.

My Piano Teacher doesn't know this?
So I have this piano teacher, and she's been teaching me for almost a year now, but she still thinks I'm a beginner because she gives me easy music. I can't read music that well, but if I have someone guiding me through music or something visual I can play really well, and memorize pieces. So at home I kinda am teaching myself and I'm more of an intermediate level than a beginner and I'm nervous to tell her, because she wants me to go with a slow pace. So I'm really nervous to tell her, because I feel like I lied to her or something. I don't know.
